on being stag

stag is the other side of the coin to panther. its presence is felt in the dark half of the year. stag is extremely connected to scotland, to the land around me, to my sense of place. it's hard to think of kemet when the cold and the rain and the dark take over, so i become stag, who is perfectly suited to this sort of thing.

the species in question is cervus elaphus scotticus - the scottish red deer. most of my animal identifications are big clouds centered on one or two nucleii, but for stag the fit is much tighter.

my fursona's secondary form also reflects this, but more specifically, it is the mythical pantheon, a heraldic deer with a long catlike tail and a pelt speckled with stars. this is a reminder that these are all facets of an integrated self, and that the heavens are my home - they just look a little different in the dark.
